A workshop for young professionals' to develop their advocacy, policy and leadership skills, to network with like-minded young leaders and potential mentors, and contribute meaningfully to the global noncommunicable diseases movement!
During this workshop, participants will gain an understanding of the current policy and political landscape of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) in their region and across the globe, and develop strategies on how to drive policy and systems change. The workshop is designed with you in mind-- it will deliver the tools to lead advocacy and action on NCDs, while providing the technical knowledge and evidence you will need to lead lasting improvements in policy for health.
This workshop will bring together a diverse group of 50 young advocates from across Eastern Africa to learn from experienced advocates, researchers and policy experts. We will also work together, across countries and disciplines, to develop national and regional strategies toward mobilizing efforts to hold our governments accountable to the global commitments they made at the United Nations in 2011 and through the Sustainable Development Goals.
The primary focus of this workshop will be to learn skills and create strategies to build accountability of governments and other stakeholders to deliver on their national commitments for NCDs, with focus on outcomes toward the 2018 United Nations High-level Review on NCDs.

Why NextGen Leaders?
The world urgently needs skilled leaders in all corners of the globe who know how to respond to the devastating impacts of non-communicable diseases, such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and mental illness, at community, national and international levels. Particularly in low-and middle-income countries, there is a paucity of interdisciplinary training opportunities and mentorship to prepare the next generation of health leaders to drive the necessary changes on NCD prevention and control, as envisioned in the Sustainable Development Agenda.
