Today, cancer is the second most common non-communicable disease in Ethiopia, only next to cardiovascular disorders. Ministry of health of Ethiopia reported that, over 61,000 new cancer cases and more than 44,000 cancer deaths occur per year. To combat this devastating burden, cancer centers are being established more recently. The first cancer center was established at Addis Ababa, Tikur Anbesa hospital. Gondar university hospital inaugurated the second cancer treatment center in the country. Even though, these actions are promising, there are some challenges accompanied with the establishment of cancer centers. The preparation of anticancer drugs are undergoing in risky condition for health professionals which worsened the limited number of the practitioners. They are exposed for carcinogenic drugs which contribute for the escalating threat of cancer. To insure the safe admixture of anti-cancers drugs, biological safety cabinet is required. Gondar university hospital is going to procure this machine. Young professionals’ chronic disease network through its chapters, is advocating and enforcing the hospital to install the equipment which is the ultimate goal of the network.

I am a young nurse(32 years) from Kenya. I am have studied epidemiology at postgraduate level and is interested in cardiovascular disease among the youth. Currently, I am doing a study on the knowledge and perception of university students on vulnerability to cardiovascular disease. The study will shed light on how this vulnerable population thinks about their risk with regard to cardiovascular disease. I would like to ask for your support and funding so as to do this study successfully. Thanks a lot.
Access to poor quality drugs for NCDs is worse than zero access.
The consequences of using substandard medicines andmedical equipment are enormous compared to not using them at all. As we concentrate on preventing NCDs, I am more concerned with the majority of the people who are already suffering from these diseases. With what I experience every time at work, it is obvious that we are lacking in the provision of good quality medical supplies and drugs to our clients. The use of poor quality products causes more harm and losses than rather than doing good. This is because when we use these things, clients are not helped, disease progress to severity, leading to complications, reduced quality life years and tell you what, the money spent to get them is unbelievable. let us all open our eyes and detect any counterfeit or fake products. The supply of these products such as drugs, blood pressure machines , Glucometers e.t.c can be supplied on named program basis to all countries. These should be quality controlled to make sure we are dealing with the right products. There should be provision made for reporting of fake or counterfeit medicine or medical supply and follow up to sew the company responsible for this shameful act.
