Greetings YP-CDN! I, together with my 2 other friends are willing to join your latest YSEALI Engage activity. 2 of us are Psychology graduates (one is a Registered Psychometrician and the other taking his Master’s degree) together with a Registered Pharmacist. We are active participants on any civic engagements in our community. We wanted to join as a group however, it seemed to have individual registration. I would like to ask if we could apply individually yet we will pass same goal, objectives and programs since we worked on it as a team. Thank you very much and hoping for an immediate response.
I have filled out and sent the form. But I am still not a member of YSEALI because when I registered there was no e-mail reply coming in. What must i do ?

Position Open: Associate Director, Cardiovascular Health
To apply for the position , people should email a cover letter, including salary history, and attached resume to : jobs@tobaccofreekids.org. Please reference the position Code : AD CH/GHAI/14 in the subject line of the email.
Associate Director, Cardiovascular Health
The Associate Director coordinates GHAI efforts in providing advocacy assistance to countries pursuing policy change on public health issues, primarily including cardiovascular health but possibly extending to other program areas, such as preventing epidemics. The Associate Director works with the GHAI team to develop an overall strategy for achieving needed policy change, including through locally-led policy advocacy campaigns. The Associate Director is responsible for leading team efforts to ensure the strategy is appropriately designed and implemented effectively.
The Associate Director must have strong familiarity with the goals and objectives of the Resolve to Save Lives Initiative, and in particular, the cardiovascular health program which focuses on eliminating artificial trans-fats, reducing sodium intake, and improving hypertension treatment in low- and middle-income countries. The Resolve Initiative, of which GHAI is one partner, seeks to save 100 million lives through several high-impact strategies. Other Resolve partner organizations will be carrying out technical assistance and helping governments to pilot test and implement new hypertension treatment protocols, conduct surveillance on trans-fats in packaged foods and measure its presence in humans, and develop and implement sodium reduction programs. GHAI’s role will be to support those efforts through policy advocacy and political support, as needed. As such, while the Associate Director must be generally familiar with technical issues surrounding cardiovascular health, GHAI’s role will focus on advocacy support: mapping/understanding the political landscape; identifying allies/champions/adversaries; identifying local partners with whom the Resolve team can work to push for policy action. This support may include policy/advocacy training to technical staff in governments and to CSOs, and may also involve media campaigns and journalism training and related efforts. Identification of priority countries for this work is still underway; at this time, we anticipate that China, India and Thailand are likely candidates.
Specific responsibilities:
" Serve as key liaison between the GHAI team and the RESOLVE team and partners (Vital Strategies, World Bank, World Health Organization, CDC Foundation, and others); keep abreast of progress in priority countries, challenges, and strategies
" As appropriate, participate in country missions with Resolve team to develop overall advocacy strategy, engage with local TFK/GHAI staff, and identify CSOs and other potential partners
" Direct overall efforts to assess local context, policy gaps and opportunities; develop strategic approach for each priority country in which GHAI works; manage implementation of the advocacy approach, including evaluation of impact
" Provide technical, political and advocacy guidance on policy proposals at local, national and multilateral levels (in particular, provide expert advice on addressing these issues at the World Health Organization and as part of the Global Framework on NCDs)
" Coordinate broad engagement between GHAI and Resolve team, including but not limited to communications, legal, research, grants and other advocacy staff
Key qualifications:
" Demonstrated experience in working on policy issues on cardiovascular health and non-communicable diseases; in particular, experience in coordinating across multiple stakeholders, understanding political and policy dynamics, and knowledge of working with multilateral and bilateral partners is key
" Proven track record of coordinating/managing multi-faceted and complex projects related to policy change in global health, including ability to anticipate issues, develop pro-active solutions, follow-up and meet deadlines
" Experience with policy development and advocacy related to cardiovascular health or preventing epidemics
" Understanding of the tools and practices needed to influence public health policy in middle- and low-income countries
" Strong communications skills, including both writing and speaking
" Experience working at the international level and in cross-cultural settings
" Ability to travel internationally
" Consultative and collaborative approach; comfort working across a large and complex international NGO on complex policy issues
" Bachelor’s degree in policy, communications, public health or other relevant field. Advanced degree preferred
In health addressing the root cause of diseases beyond the biological causes is important . Social and structural issues affect access not only to health but also health information. To effectively address non communicable diseases we have to also deal with factors that make some more people more vulnerable than others. I am part of a global network of health professionals driven by the desire for social justice and health equity called the Social Medicine Consortium (SMC).
I’m excited to let you know that we are currently accepting submissions for abstracts for poster presentations, breakout sessions, and applications for international scholarships for the upcoming SMC conference, Sharing Strategies for Health Equity: Social Medicine in Action. As a reminder, this event is taking place on April 28, 2018 at the Red Rock Event Center in Churchrock, New Mexico.
Abstracts for Breakout Sessions
We are accepting abstracts for breakout sessions that connect with one or more of the conference objectives. Breakout sessions may be formatted as a presentation, panel, or interactive session. Learn more and submit a proposal for a session on http://www.socialmedicineconsortium.org/conferencedetails.
The deadline for submissions is February 12, 2018. Please direct any questions to Michelle Morse at mmorse@equalhealth.org
Abstracts for Poster Presentation
We are seeking abstracts that describe innovative projects related to social medicine (including programs and curricula), which may be written and presented in English, French or Spanish. Detailed submission guidelines may be found here.
The deadline for submissions is February 12, 2018. For those applying for international travel scholarships, applicants who have submitted an abstract for poster presentation will be given priority. Please direct all questions about abstracts to abstracts@equalhealth.org.
Applications for International Travel Scholarships
We believe that the voices and experiences of international colleagues are critical to include in this dialogue, and recognize that the financial burden of travel to the US may be prohibitive. We are therefore dedicated to providing several international travel scholarships for attendees who are committed to the Social Medicine Consortium. Learn more and apply on http://www.socialmedicineconsortium.org/conferencedetails.
The deadline for applications is February 12, 2018. Please direct any questions to Casey Fox on cfox@equalhealth.org
Please share widely, and as always, feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
I am Toyyib Oladimeji ABDULKAREEM, the Convener, The Wellbeing Initiative. We are a consortium of young minds passionate about reducing the incidence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Nigeria.
At the 2016 National Health Foundation Assembly, the Director General of Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) stated that Nigeria accounts for not less than 27% of the total global deaths due to non-communicable diseases (NCDs). In a 2017 report, the World Health Organisation submitted that cardiovascular diseases (a category of NCDs) are the number one cause of death. Further research showed that there are increasing health and economic burden due to these ailments that are contributing to our low life expectancy in Nigeria. This is why I seek information on starting a chapter of YP-CDN in Nigeria. This will localise the activities in our community towards better health.
I hope you are well! (I tried to check the box I wanted email updates/wanted to volunteer, but it wouldn’t let me).
Recently I launched a Kickstarter to help me self-publish a book I’ve written about growing up with chronic illness and mental health. You can learn more on the Kickstarter and my blog
I need your help! If you are able to help contribute to the Kickstarter, I would really appreciate it! Also, if you could help spread the word, that would be wonderful!
Again, any help would be greatly appreciated!
Please let me know if you need anything or have any questions!
